Welcome to Treasured Roots, a family-owned farm nestled in the picturesque hills of Frederick County, MD.

Our journey began in 2017, when Laura's parents - Harry and Natalie Louden - had the opportunity to turn an 80-acre historic property into a new chapter for our family. They carefully restored the house, the land and the beautiful 1880’s bank barn to create a place where the family could enjoy the outdoors together. Our children have grown up exploring the barn, wading in the creek, swimming, sledding, and simply enjoying the land. We knew from the start that we wanted this farm to remain in our family and community for generations.

Over the years, an idea began to take shape: How could we honor the land’s history while also ensuring its future? How could we create something meaningful that reflected our love for food, nature, and shared experiences? We spent years exploring possibilities, and discussing ideas that would fit this land’s unique character. Eventually, an answer emerged: truffles and lavender - crops that are unique, beautiful, and capable of bringing people together through their flavors and aromas.

Truffles are a true labor of love, requiring years of careful cultivation and a deep partnership with nature. Lavender complements them perfectly—adding stunning beauty to the land, supporting pollinators, and offering versatile culinary possibilities.

In the spring of 2024, our vision took root – literally. We planted our first truffle orchard—820 oak and hazelnut trees inoculated to produce European black truffles—alongside 2,000 lavender plants

Farming is a long-term commitment, and we are in it for the journey. Our three daughters have been by our side every step of the way – planting trees, tending to the lavender, and exploring culinary creations in the kitchen. Watching their pride, joy, and learning how to build a business has been one of the greatest joys of this experience. It reminds us that this is more than a business - it’s a legacy, a labor of love, and a place that will continue to bring people together for years to come.

Thank you for being a part of our story.

With love,
